Documents that make specification and procurement faster

Written for the person actually preparing the BOQ, comparing three offers that are not really comparable, or building a maintenance calendar from scratch. General guidance — not a substitute for project-specific engineering.

  • Checklist

    BOQ Preparation Checklist

The data points that make an electrical BOQ quotable in one pass: ratings, duty, standards, ambient, enclosure, cable routes and interface details.

  • Guide

    Transformer Specification Guide

How to define kVA rating, vector group, impedance, cooling, tap range and loss capitalisation before you compare vendor offers.

  • Technical Note

    Switchgear Selection Notes

Fault level, busbar rating, internal arc classification and segregation forms — and how each choice affects cost and footprint.

  • Guide

    Cable Sizing Fundamentals

Current-carrying capacity, derating factors, voltage drop and short-circuit withstand explained with a worked structure you can reuse.

  • Template

    Preventive Maintenance Schedule Template

A starting maintenance calendar for transformers, switchgear, drives and UPS systems, organised by monthly, quarterly and annual activity.

  • Primer

    Power Factor & Harmonics Primer

Where reactive power penalties and harmonic distortion come from, how to measure them, and which correction equipment fits which problem.

Resources are issued on request rather than as open downloads, so that we can send the version relevant to your voltage class and application. Ask for one using the contact form and we will email it across.

Quick reference

What makes a BOQ quotable in one pass

Most quotation delays are not commercial. They come from a line item that cannot be priced without a clarification. These are the fields that remove that round trip.

Upload your BOQ
Substation structures and conductors in monochrome
  1. 01Equipment description with the governing standard
  2. 02Rating: kVA / kW / A / kV, and the duty it must sustain
  3. 03Quantity, and whether it is per unit or per set
  4. 04Site conditions: ambient, altitude, humidity, pollution level
  5. 05Enclosure, mounting, IP class and indoor or outdoor location
  6. 06Interface details: incoming and outgoing cable size, entry direction
  7. 07Testing expected: routine, type, or witnessed at works
  8. 08Delivery location, required date and any staging requirement

Missing several of these is not a problem — send what you have. The list is here so you know which gaps will generate a clarification, and can decide whether to fill them now or let us raise them.

Want a resource that is not listed?

If there is a calculation, checklist or comparison format that would help your team, tell us. If it is something we prepare regularly, we will send it across.

Quotations typically issued within 24–72 working hours of a complete requirement.

Editorial note

On the status of this guidance

These documents describe general engineering practice and are written to help structure a decision. They do not replace project-specific design, a review by the engineer responsible for your installation, or the standards and statutory requirements applicable in your jurisdiction. Where a resource includes a worked example, the figures are illustrative.
